Tell me about the latest books you have published.
The one before the last is an essay about “Omega,” a sound recording and masterpiece by Enrique Morente, who is a master flamenco singer from Granada, and the Spanish rock band Lagartija Nick. The book, marked by Morente’s death during the final writing stages, includes a foreword by the musician Santiago Auserón and an epilogue by the great Leonard Cohen. It was finalist for the latest edition of the UFI award.

My latest book is “El público,” which, in a nutshell, tells a fictionalized account centered on media, the world of luxury and contemporary unease. It’s my first novel and, fortunately for me, it was exceptionally well received by critics and readers alike.

¿Has publicado en formato electrónico?

Have you published in electronic format?
In the last version of my Web page I loaded three poetry books: “Lunas hienas,” “África para sociedades secretas” and “Duna 45”. They were not PDFs, rather poems copied directly that could only be read there. Once I redesigned the page, they were no longer available, though I should digitize them since they are out of print by now. I should really transfer it all to e-book format.

What blogs, electronic magazines or other Web places would you recommend for discovering new Spanish-speaking writers?
I propose that in your question you include social media: I am not loyal to blogs or magazines (though I read things here and there) but I pay a lot of attention to Twitter, where I discover things by browsing. I also have friends and advisers in Argentina, Peru or Mexico, who always recommend things to me. So that my answer is not entirely wasted, I will mention Moleskine Literario by Ivan Thays and the Vicente Luis Mora’s blog.

Who are your major influences in Ibero-American literature?
Two contemporary authors who I profoundly admire and have read and reread are Fogwill from Argentina and Mario Bellatin from Mexico. I’ve also had the chance to meet them. In poetry, I’m particularly interested in the Brazilians and the poetic, sound and visual work of Arnaldo Antunes. I will place journalism among literary references to balance out the level, always between remarkable and outstanding, in this profession in Argentina.

Mishima, Nabokov, Perec, Burroughs, O’Brien, Roussel, Ballard, Palanhiuk, Proust, Goethe, Grass, Houellebecq, Carrére, Antrim…

What other writers have influenced your work?
Mishima, Nabokov, Perec, Burroughs, O’Brien, Roussel, Ballard, Palanhiuk, Proust, Goethe, Grass, Houellebecq, Carrére, Antrim… I leave many behind and my answer is based on recent influx. In order for my answer to be accurate I would have to write new names everyday for months or years, in the same way that a camera portrays a space with more accuracy with a long exposure.

No sé, mucha gente.

What new Spanish-speaking authors would you recommend?
Eloy Fernández Porta’s work as an essay writer is brilliant and enlightening. I also follow Agustín Fernández-Mallo, who has done interesting and important things in the last few years. I would like to see what Pola Oloixarac is going to do; her first novel showed such talent it was insulting. From Argentina I also follow Damian Tabarovski. A recent Spanish novel that I like is “Alma” by Javier Moreno. I follow Javier Calvo in Spain. I also look forward to new work by Mercedes Cebrián. I don’t know, a lot of people.  I’m replying almost thoughtlessly; I’m away from home (without my library) and the mental map of my favorite authors is blurry.

What are you working on now?
On a new novel that seems to be entitled “Remake.” I’m also about to publish a musical and literary collaboration with the Argentinean rock band Babasónicos. The lead singer is one of those good friends with whom I exchange literary information and we have worked on a series of tracks featuring his music and my texts (excerpts from my latest book, “El público”). I’m also working on a collection of poems in CD format (in collaboration with the Spanish musician Javier Díez Ena, who is a member of the bands Dead Capo and Ginferno). It will contain idiotic and somewhat violent poems; I predict a complete misencounter with its potential audience, which, I believe, will be zero.

How would you like future libraries to be?
Round, free and in the middle of the street, like public urinals. The books will be out of order and mixed up. But this will not disturb readers, who will be willing to be surprised. Consequently, volumes will not be labeled. Nor will there be annoying librarians. There will be plenty of time to read and people will return the books on time; as well as contribute many titles.
